Call For Palmer Award Nominations

The Minnesota Chromatography Forum (MCF) presents the Palmer Award annually at the Spring Symposium. The award recognizes one individual for their contributions to the art and science of chromatography during the previous year. Past recipients have included internationally recognized chromatographers as well as long-term MCF volunteers. Many people wonder about the Palmer Award and who is eligible to receive it. This may answer some of those questions.

What is the Palmer Award?
The Palmer Award has been given out by the MCF for the past 18 years. The award recognizes individuals for their contributions to the art and science of chromatography. The award can also be given to someone for service to the MCF or the chromatography community.

How is the Palmer Award winner selected?
A committee that reads and discusses all individuals nominated for the award selects a winner. The Past President of the MCF heads the committee.

Who can receive the award?
Any individual who works or deals with chromatography can receive the Palmer Award. The individual does not need to be regionally or nationally known for their contributions. This award is for anyone who contributes to our community.

How can I nominate someone?
Fill out the nomination below or you can find the nomination form on the MCF web site at www.minnchrom.org.

Minutes of the MCF 23 March 2000 Board Meeting

Present: G Bailie, L Charpentier, R Ravichandran, T Robison, P Sackett, W Swanson

Treasurer's Report: We've informed US Bank we're closing our account, the balance looks good.

Symposium Committee Report: The preliminary brochure has been sent and abstracts are slowly flowing in. Now that Pittcon is history we should have increased activity in booth sales. Space has been increased to allow for 46 booths plus a seating area without a cost increase.

Education Committee Report: A GC course will be held in November, dates have not been finalized. Beginning or advanced LC or GC courses may be offered.  No plans will be made until feedback from the Symposium courses is considered. The timing of the Undergraduate Award may be shifted to encourage students to include a research project among their options as they make plans for the summer.

Program Reports: A Spring quarterly meeting will be held joint with MinnMass on 3 May at Agilent's offices on Larpenteur. David Lubman will present but has not proposed a title.

Website: We have 15 supporting vendors and interest from others. Since August, traffic has averaged 7.4 visits per day with an increase in recent weeks. David will announce the combo newsletter/website vendor support fee structure around Symposium time.

New Business: Luke , suggested we poll the membership to determine if offering small sessions about non-chromatographic topics might be of interest. Ward will include a section on this in the member questionnaire. To avoid conflicts with finals week for members in academe, the dates of the Symposium may be shifted to an earlier time in May. The 3rd. week in May might conflict with schools having trimesters, while the 1st week in May might conflict with the U.

Next Meeting: Monday, 24 April, 7:30 pm. Contact Pat Sackett for directions.
